Family Fun at Liverpool Irish Festival

The Armagh Rhymers surrounded by children at Museum of Liverpool.

Half-term is coming up fast and we have heaps of free family fun coming up at Liverpool Irish Festival.

Family Day

On Sat 21 Oct 2023, we’re at the Museum of Liverpool for our Family Day! A Festival-staple and must-see; we invite you to pop-by -or indeed, spend the day with us- at the Museum of Liverpool (Pier Head).

There, we’ve a veritable array of activity to entertain kids (and adults) of all ages. Up to date info on the day’s activities can be found here.

Give it a go (GAA)

On Sat 28 Oct 2023, whether you’re a keen Gaelic Football player or have never heard of the game, come along to our ‘give it a go’ Festival session. John Mitchel’s GAA coaches will be there to welcome everyone, providing a great opportunity to find out a bit more about the game and the club – with a chance to meet members and play a bit of Gaelic Football. Samhain Céilí

…and on 29 October, Comhaltas and ArtsGroupie CIC take it in turns playing (spooky) fun games and music, to dance and play along with, whilst the veil between our world and ‘the Other’ is at its thinnest.

Dance The Monster Mash, fly like a Liver Bird and learn the unique Grasshopper Jig. We invite you to bring along the kids -in their best creepy dress-up (or not)- and hope adults will play along. Free, just turn up – and the first 50 children receive a gift bag! More Information…

And finally….

Art for kids

Collect your free Brave Meave children’s book. Don’t’ miss a chance to collect your free children’s story book ‘Brave Maeve’ at the Family Day and Samhain Céilí. We’ll make sure a few are available at the Irish Centre over the Festival (19-29 Oct 2023). Remaining copies will be available to buy for £4.99 + P&P from our online shop.

The book was commissioned by Liverpool Irish Festival, in partnership with Gael Linn and An tUltach, and created by Stu Harrison. In it, readers follow Brave Maeve as she adventures through enchanted places, encountering characters from Irish myth and legend.

You can meet the author and hear him read the story on Sat 28 Oct 2023 at The Williamson Art Gallery (3pm) – Free event just turn up!

You may also like to pop by St Helens Library at World of Glass from 19 Oct-24 Nov 2023. There you can see Nuala Monaghan’s exhibition –Irish Myth and Legend– telling five key stories from Irish myth and legend! Again, it’s free to see – just pop by.
